All Toggenburg Patrollers are registered members of the National Ski Patrol, having met the entrance and annual training requirements set by the National Ski Patrol.

The Toggenburg Ski Patrol is completely volunteer and self- sustaining. All of our equipment, clothing and medical supplies are provided by the patrollers themselves and funded through various fund-raising activities.

YES, we ski for free, BUT we also:

¨      Pay annual dues of $64.00.

¨    Are obligated to patrol a minimum of 10 shifts, averaging 6 hours each, for the full duration of the season.

¨      Have gone through extensive training in:

ü Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) classroom and On-the-Hill Instruction

ü  CPR and training in proper use of our two Automatic External Defibrillators (AED)

ü      Ski and Toboggan skills

ü      Chairlift evacuation

¨      Have spent every Sunday of our candidate “year-in-training” on the slopes (9 to 4:30) learning Ski & Toboggan skills and applying our classroom OEC skills to on-slope conditions.

¨   Spent at least 14 hours retraining for the new season by December 1st.

ALL TO PROVIDE TOGGENBURG MOUNTAIN WINTER SPORTS CENTER WITH THE BEST PROFESSIONAL RESCUE TEAM POSSIBLE!

¨  This year the Patrol has 11 women and 38 men for a total of 49  active Patrollers.

¨    Patrollers averaged 110 "on duty" hours per person in the 89 days Toggenburg operated last season.

WHY DO WE DO IT?

Patrolling provides a new dimension to skiing, a chance to learn new practical skills and improve skiing abilities, an excellent opportunity to meet people who enjoy skiing, be of service to the public, and be part of the Toggenburg community.
